Official park resources
- • Current conditions checked October 18, 2026. Recheck the linked NPS pages before departure; reopening dates and water availability can change.
- • Do not attempt rim-to-river-to-rim as a day hike. There are no easy trails into or out of Grand Canyon.
- • South Kaibab has no trail water. Carry adequate water, salty food, sun protection and water-treatment supplies.
- • In summer avoid inner-canyon hiking between 10 am and 4 pm; canyon temperatures are much hotter than rim forecasts.
- • Winter brings snow and ice on rim trails; use appropriate traction and check road closures. North Rim access is seasonal.
- • Backcountry camping requires permits. Lodge and developed campground reservations are separate; selecting a Basecamp here does not book a room or campsite.
- • South and North Rim villages are about five hours apart by road. Timeline trail time does not include driving, approach trails or wilderness overnight stays.
- • Remote routes require navigation skills, official maps and verified water sources. Published GIS centerlines may begin at trail junctions; never use this map as your only navigation source.
- • Photos credited to NPS or Wikimedia; places without a verified photo show none.
